Nominations for Megagauss Award

At the 2006 Megagauss Conference in Santa Fe, the Megagauss Institute presented the first Megagauss Award to Professor Fritz Herlach. The Board of Directors of the Megagauss Institute invites nominations for Megagauss Award(s), consisting of a certificate and modest cash stipend to be presented in Novosibirsk:

"To recognize an individual for outstanding technical achievements in the field of Megagauss science and technology, or to recognize an individual whose efforts, over an extended period, have greatly benefited the field through important advances; the growth of important applications; or the growth of areas of activity including research, education and information exchange."

To be eligible for the Award a candidate must be:

A member of the Megagauss community who has regularly contributed to, or participated in the Megagauss Conference series, and who has made outstanding technical contributions or contributions to the developing, managing or influencing programs, education or information exchange in the area of Megagauss science and technology for at least ten years.

The Award Committee will judge nominations based on:
  1. Importance of individual technical contributions to Megagauss science and technology. (40 points).
  2. Importance of sustained contributions to Megagauss science and technology through the development and management of programs, education or information exchange. (40 points)
  3. Quality and significance of publications and patents (10 points)
  4. Years of technical distinction and/or service to the community (10 points)


The Award is in consideration for outstanding technical accomplishments and/or leadership in the field of Megagauss science and technology. Up to three awards may be presented at each Megagauss Conference upon the recommendation of the Awards Committee and approval of the Megagauss Institute Board of Directors. It is expected that the Award recipients will be invited to present a plenary address at the 2008 Megagauss Conference.

Nominations should include:
  1. Nomination Letter from the nominator addressing the candidate's background, experience, and contribution in each of the four areas listed.
  2. Up to four letters of endorsements from institutional officials, supervisors or co-workers addressing specific aspects of the candidates contributions with which the endorser is personally familiar.
  3. A separate, one page, professional biography of the candidate (potentially including reference to candidates activities and accomplishments in other fields if appropriate) , suitable for publication. In addition a photograph of the candidate, would also be helpful.
